During the WWDC 2024 event on Monday, Apple unveiled the iOS 18 update, which is expected to provide more customization options to Mail, Messages, and Photos.
Users will be able to send and receive messages over satellite in locations without a network with the future iOS 18 release. Similar to the SOS by satellite function, its availability may vary across different regions, including India.
The iOS 18 release will offer the ability to personalize the Home screen and icons, altering their size and color, just like any other new version. It is also functional in dark mode.
Users will be able to personalize the buttons at the bottom of the Lock Screen, organize widgets and apps in any available space on the Home Screen, and rapidly access additional options in Control Center.
Now, users may change the controls at the bottom of the Lock Screen, selecting from a gallery of alternatives or deleting them completely. Users can utilize the Action button to access controls that are listed in the gallery.
A new single view option for photos will be available, with collections presented at the bottom. It will have labels in it with months and years on them. Additionally, it will organize screenshots for you. Labels for people and groups, travel and activities are also included.
By categorizing emails based on on-device intelligence, Mail streamlines the inbox, while iMessage will soon support brand-new text effects.
Any letter, word, phrase, or emoji may now be amplified in iMessage with dynamic, animated appearances. Formatting options available to users include strikethrough, bold text, underlining, and italics. Any emoji or sticker can now be added to tapbacks, and messages can be composed and scheduled to be sent at a later time.
Apple plans to replace the Keychain with a new app called Passwords, which will allow users to access passkeys, passwords for Wi-Fi, and verification codes.
Users of iOS 18 will be able to lock and conceal any app.
In order to improve gameplay with more reliable frame rates and responsive wireless peripherals like game controllers and AirPods, there will be a Game Mode.
Users of Apple AirPods Pro can now answer to Siri announcements by just nodding yes or softly shaking nay.
Through the Apple Developer Program, you can get the iOS 18 developer beta. The public beta will be available starting next month.
For iPhone Xs and later models, iOS 18 will be available as a free software update this fall.
